Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 4, 2026

 

Runr ("we", "our", or "us") is a GPS run tracking and coaching app for iPhone and Apple Watch. We built Runr with a simple privacy principle: your data belongs to you and stays on your device. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how.

 

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Data You Provide

When you set up Runr you provide:

  • Your name (used only to personalize the app experience on your device)

  • Fitness level and training preferences

  • Preferred units (metric or imperial)

  • Optional: current 5K pace for plan calibration

1.2 Data Collected During Use

When you track a run, Runr collects:

  • GPS route coordinates, distance, pace, and duration

  • Elevation gain and loss

  • Heart rate (read from Apple Watch or HealthKit)

  • Calories burned (estimated)

  • Split pace per kilometre or mile

  • Run type, notes, weather condition, and effort/feeling ratings you enter

  • Shoe assigned to the run (if you use the shoe tracker)

1.3 HealthKit Data

With your permission, Runr reads and writes the following Apple Health data types:

  • Workouts (HKWorkoutType) — to import past runs and save completed runs

  • Heart Rate (HKQuantityTypeHeartRate) — for live zones and post-run analysis

  • Resting Heart Rate (HKQuantityTypeRestingHeartRate) — for heart rate zone calibration

  • Active Energy (HKQuantityTypeActiveEnergyBurned) — to write calorie data for completed runs

Runr never reads HealthKit data for any purpose other than the run-tracking features described above.

 

2. How We Use Your Data

All data collected by Runr is used exclusively to provide the app’s features:

  • Calculate and display your pace, distance, splits, elevation, and heart rate zones

  • Generate and track training plans personalised to your goals

  • Award badges based on milestones you achieve

  • Track shoe mileage so you know when to replace your shoes

  • Show weekly and monthly progress charts and personal records

  • Provide audio coaching cues during runs

  • Display Live Activity and Home Screen widget with current run stats

We do not use your data for advertising, analytics services, or any purpose beyond operating the app features you use.

 

3. Data Storage — On Device Only

All Runr data is stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This means:

  • Your run history, training plans, profile, shoes, and badges never leave your iPhone

  • Runr has no backend servers, no user accounts, and no cloud database

  • Data syncs between your iPhone and Apple Watch only — via Apple’s local WatchConnectivity framework

  • If you enable iCloud backup on your device, Runr data may be included in that backup under Apple’s iCloud privacy terms — this is controlled entirely by your device settings

 

Because we store nothing server-side, we have no ability to access, retrieve, or delete your data remotely. Deleting the app from your device permanently removes all Runr data.

 

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with any third party. Ever.

The only data that leaves your device is:

  • Data you explicitly choose to export (GPX or CSV files) — shared only by you, through iOS share sheet, to a destination you choose

  • Run share cards (images) — generated on-device and shared only if you tap the share button

Runr contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no crash reporting services that transmit data.

 

5. Location Data

Runr requests access to your location only While In Use — meaning only when the app is open and actively tracking a run.

  • Location is used exclusively to record your GPS route and calculate distance and pace

  • Runr does not request Always On location access

  • Background location is not used on iPhone — when your screen locks during a run, the Apple Watch continues tracking independently

  • Location data is stored only on your device as part of your run history

You can revoke location permission at any time in iPhone Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Runr. Without location access the app can still be used for manual log entry, plan tracking, and stats review.

 

6. In-App Purchases

Runr offers a one-time Pro unlock purchase (“Runr Pro”) processed entirely through Apple’s App Store. We do not collect, see, or store any payment information. All billing is handled by Apple under their terms and privacy policy.

A purchase receipt token is stored locally on your device to verify Pro status. This token is never transmitted to any server operated by us.

 

7. Children’s Privacy

Runr is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for all ages. Because we collect no personal data on our servers, there is no minimum age requirement from our side. HealthKit data access follows Apple’s own age-gating mechanisms on the device.

 

8. Your Rights and Controls

Because all data is stored on your device, you have full control at all times:

  • View your data — all run history, plans, and stats are visible in the app

  • Delete individual runs — swipe to delete in the History tab

  • Delete all data — delete the app from your device

  • Revoke HealthKit access — iPhone Settings → Privacy → Health → Runr

  • Revoke location access — iPhone Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Runr

We cannot delete data on your behalf because we do not hold any.

 

9. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and note the changes in the app release notes. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

We will never introduce data collection practices that contradict the core principle of this policy — your data stays on your device — without clearly notifying you first.
